Santo honored in Mesa

Yesterday was Ron Santo day in Hohokam Park to honor one of the most loved Cubs(C) players of all time. Teammates, family, friends and fans pain homage to #10 as part of the events planned to honor Santo througout the season. The Cubs(C) donned #10 hats for yesterdays game and will be wearing a #10 patch on their uniforms throughout the season. A statue of Santo will be added to Wrigley Field on August 10th.

Off season work paying off for Soriano

A minimum of three hours a day at the Cubs(C) academy in the Dominican Republic is paying off for Alfonso Soriano with a marked improvement in his hitting. Let's add this to the reason's Mike Quade is happy with how Spring Training is progressing. Hopefully this will all pay off once the boys return to Wrigley.

Big Z keeps his cool

Carlos Zambrano stayed focused and collected on the mound yesterday even though the Cubs(c) lost to the Rockies. His new attitude on the mound seems to have extended to outside the ballpark. Mike Quade has nothing but nice things to say about Z's interaction with his teammates. Bring that new attitude to Wrigley Big Z, we need you.

Maddux still making a difference for the Cubs(C)

He may not take the mound at Wrigley Field anymore but Greg Maddux is still making a difference for the Cubs(C). As a special assistant to the Cubs(C) Maddux has taken prospect Trey McNutt under his wing. The young pitcher has already benefited from the veteran's tutelage last season when McNutt was with Peoria. I have a feeling that the flag waving over Wrigley Field won't be the only evidence of Greg Maddux's talent on the field.

Cubs look to be strong all around

It looks like Mike Quade is taking the big picture approach with the Cubs(c) this season. Word out of Mesa is that Ramirez is looking to be a threat at stealing bases. Add that to Quade and the other coaches work with all the players and we may have a unified team returning to Wrigley on April 1st. It's refreshing to see that people remember that this is a team sport and all positions are important.
